Does Viagra Has The Approval Of FDA For Use In Women?

The Viagra of Pfizer only has the approval of the FDA for use in men now. And the Flibanserin, another "female Viagra" manufacturers of Boehringer Ingelheim did not show strong enough benefits to warrant approval from FDA in June 11, 2010.

Reasons the FDA gave for disapproval included the relatively low rate of effectiveness on increasing satisfactory encounters, the minimal effect on increasing sexual desire, and the risk of side effects. However, the FDA gave encouragement to keep working on the problem.

In October 8th 2010, Boehringer Ingelheim has officially stopped the development of Flibanserin. They still believe that the drug works but after the FDA panel vote earlier this year they believe that the efforts to gain approval are too difficult.

In Europe, Pfizer is currently conducting clinical trials of Viagra in women. The methods Pfizer has adopted to measure the effects of this drug in women are similar to those the company used in men--patients are given detailed questionnaires concerning several aspects of sexual arousal/performance, and the results of these surveys used to determine efficacy. The results of this study, however, are not yet available, causing some US doctors to take matters into their own hands.

The clinical trials of Flibanserin is also working in Europe. The researchers concluded that treatment with 100 milligrams of flibanserin once a day was associated with significant improvements versus placebo in the number of satisfying sexual events (SSE) reported, sexual desire (as measured by eDiary and FSFI desire domain), a reduction in distress associated with sexual dysfunction (as measured by FSDS-R and its Item 13), and sexual functioning as measured by FSFI.

Although Viagra of Pfizer only has the approval of the FDA for use in men, doctors are legally allowed to write prescriptions for Viagra for any person, regardless of sex. Thus, many physicians, not willing to wait for the results of clinical studies, have begun performing Viagra on female patients. If you are Interested in the Viagra, you need to understand :
